A nice pastry shape sparks ideas and transforms a good appetizer into a great opportunity to impress your friends. These crispy fried shrimp are so tasty with some creamy sauce and a little spice!
If you didn’t know, people eat seafood for Christmas. Or at least, they eat more seafood than usual! I don’t know about other parts of the world, but this works very well for me, because I like seafood. And… if you’re more of a meat person for Christmas you can try adding something new to the menu.
Shrimp are very tasty so they are my favorites, beside octopus. I like them in pasta, with garlic and olive oil or simply fried. This Christmas I bought some nice looking puff pastry spoons and I got an idea to create a shrimp appetizer for them: crispy fried shrimp!
It’s not a very complicated dish to make, as you will see in the recipe below. You just need a little patience when frying the shrimp so they don’t burn and look their best.
I’m also giving you instructions on how to do a simple sauce that goes very well with your crispy fried shrimp. I felt like they needed something creamy on top. Hope you enjoy!

Crispy Fried Shrimp
Equipment
Ingredients
- 1 pound shrimp (400 grams, cleaned and deveined)
- crumbs
- chili powder
- 1 egg
- vegetable oil
- chives
- puff pastry spoons (or any other shape, for plating)
Instructions
- Take a shrimp, dump it in the beaten egg where you put some chilli powder
- Roll it in the crumbs until all sides of the shrimp are covered
- In a preheated pan at high temperature, filled with vegetable oil, put the shrimp in and let it cook on each side for 2 mins.
- Take it out on a plate over a paper towel, to absorb the extra oil.
- This goes very well with a simple sauce: mix ketchup and mayonnaise in a bowl until it has a uniform color.
- For plating, you’ll also need chopped chives. So, take the puff pastry spoons, add the shrimp, put a little sauce on it and sprinkle some chives.
